Giancarlo Tommasi soon realized his destiny: he spent his youth learning in the family vineyards and the winer.
Although Giancarlo Tommasi spent his youth learning in the family vineyards and the winery, he had just finished his formal enological studies when he took over Poggio al Tufo with a latitude of responsibility that he had not yet earned at home.

In the Maremma, he perfected a method and a stylistic signature that began by listening to the land and observing viticultural traditions. Then he imagined what he could bring to build on those traditions to make elegant and enjoyable wines with a unique style that would create traction with wine lovers around the world.
In Emiliano Falsini, Giancarlo found the ideal colleague to head the Tuscan estates.
The Cellar
Although Giancarlo Tommasi spent his youth learning in the family vineyards and the winery, he had just finished his formal enological studies when he took over Poggio al Tufo with a latitude of responsibility that he had not yet earned at home.

Today the winemaking takes place at a small facility at Tenute Albore until the Poggio al Tufo winery is complete.
Excavation has begun for the new facility that will house cutting-edge, environmentally friendly and eco-sustainable technologies. It will be primarily underground and built on different levels to adapt to the slopes of the land, thus fitting perfectly into the environmental framework of the Maremma countryside.
Conceived with solar panels, to be self-sufficient from an energy point of view, it will host different environments designed to optimize its position, and the light, temperature and humidity conditions. The entire winemaking process from vinification in steel to wood-ageing for the three Maremman vineyards will take place here.
