Information

Tasting Note

A deep ruby red in color, it displays a complex and fragrant bouquet of wild berry fruits, leather, and the balsamic herbs of Mediterranean shrubland. On the palate it is rich, well-structured, attractively well-balanced and mouth-filling, with an intense, persistent finish.

Origin

Alicante is an ancient grape, widespread in Spain and France. Studies and research confirm the arrival of this blend in Maremma and in particular in Scansano during the Spanish domination. The Alicante bouschet has been planted since the acquisition of Poggio al Tufo in 1997. The grapes are today selected both in the Bottinello vineyard in the Rompicollo estate in Pitigliano and in the Albore estate in Scansano.

Vineyard

Poggio al Tufo is the first Tommasi family estate outside the Valpolicella Classica area, bought in 1997. It is a story of fascinating Tuscan terroirs, where Tommasi started an ambitious project: creating high quality wines in the Maremma Toscana territories. The property is located in Pitigliano, in the province of Grosseto, a very important Etruscan site in the heart of Maremma Toscana. Tenuta Rompicollo includes a rural and cosy agriturismo, the result of a careful conservative restoration of the existing buildings.
